Understanding the Food System:
Researched climate impact on agriculture, urban farming, and water scarcity. Mapped history, current scenarios and possible futures for smart farming.

Research Goals & Questions
How to lower the cost of smart farming adoption?
How to reduce technical barriers for farmers?
How to significantly reduce water usage?

Futures Thinking & Strategic Models
Alternate Presents Timeline: Evolution of drones in farming (1980–2025).
Backcasting: Traced desirable futures back to present-day steps.
Future Headlines: “What-if” scenarios around water scarcity and smart farming.
What-if Framework: Explored Preferable, Possible, Plausible futures.

Opportunity & Insights

THE ONLY STATEMENT

Dashboard: Visualize crops, soil moisture, weather, and AI recommendations, with drone insights and easy sidebar navigation.

Drone Booking: Easy 4-step scheduling with drone and mission details.

Farm Overview: Crop status (type, health, growth, harvest timeline), AI-driven action recommendations, and live weather conditions.

Field Insights: Regional heatmaps (NDVI, moisture, temperature, fertility), trends over time, soil status, recent alerts, action log, and region-specific smart recommendations.

Field Notes:
Capture notes (audio, video, images, text, voice) during field visits, link them to regions, and review over time.
Community Hub:
Share insights, get peer feedback, access local tips, and discover events for your crops and region.

Mobile notifications: Tablet-first app with mobile alerts only for quick feedback on upcoming and completed farm actions.

Impact & Vision

Potential Harm Mitigation

Working on Farmsight taught me how to bridge "Futures thinking with Interaction design."
Speculative Design: Using frameworks like the Futures Cone, Backcasting and Alternate realities showed me how to think beyond immediate solutions and imagine systemic shifts in food systems.
Research to Insight: Interviews and secondary research helped me move from broad challenges (climate, water scarcity) to actionable design opportunities like farm monitoring with drone sharing.
Prototyping as Thinking: Building UI flows for the dashboard, field insights and farm overview made abstract ideas tangible, while also revealing gaps in usability and adoption.
